They are primarily used in high-load, high-pressure and severely corrosive assemblies where standard stainless steel fasteners would experience rapid pitting, crevice corrosion, or structural failure. Typical applications include offshore oil and gas installations, high-pressure seawater desalination piping flanges, chemical reactor vessels and subsea structural connections.

Standard 316L stainless steel has lower yield strength and is highly vulnerable to stress corrosion cracking and crevice corrosion under bolt heads in warm, chloride rich environments. Duplex 2205 Bolts provide nearly double the yield strength of 316L and outstanding resistance to chloride-induced pitting, allowing bolted connections to remain secure for over 30 years of continuous service.

Because Duplex 2205 has a yield strength of approximately 450 MPa, it is significantly stronger than traditional austenitic grades. This high strength to weight ratio allows design engineers to use smaller or fewer bolts to achieve the same clamping force, which reduces overall joint weight, lowers support bearing preloads and reduces material costs.

Every batch undergoes spectrochemical analysis (ICP/OES) to confirm alloy chemistry, tensile testing to confirm mechanical limits and ASTM G48 corrosion testing to verify pitting and crevice corrosion immunity. We supply each shipment with a complete EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Certificate (MTC) and a Certificate of Conformance (CoC), ensuring 100% traceability back to the raw material heat number.
