They are used for load distribution and surface protection in aggressive chemical environments, specifically where machinery is exposed to strong alkalis, sodium hydroxide (NaOH), or potassium hydroxide (KOH). Typical applications include chemical reactors, pulp and paper pulping systems, food and beverage caustic washing systems, and high-temperature chemical service up to 425°C.
Standard Stainless Steel (even 316L) is highly susceptible to localized pitting and embrittlement when exposed to highly alkaline or caustic environments over long periods. Commercially pure Nickel 200 (99.6% Ni) forms a stable, natural protective oxide layer in these high pH environments, providing absolute immunity to corrosion and enabling a 30+ year operational lifespan.
While Inconel and Monel are excellent choices for subsea seawater, high pressures, and oxidizing acids, pure Nickel 200 is the dedicated expert for pure alkaline and caustic environments. The alloy additions in Inconel or Monel can actually reduce performance in strong, pure alkalis. Pure nickel provides maximum, focused corrosion immunity in NaOH and KOH systems.
We manufacture multiple configurations designed to manage dynamic loads. Plain Flat Washers are specified for static load distribution and material separation. For active vibration damping and thermal-cycling joints, Belleville conical washers (which can be stacked), wave washers (for compact vertical heights), and split lock washers are used.
