They are primarily used to distribute high bolt clamping forces and prevent joint relaxation in components constantly exposed to saltwater and dynamic forces. Typical applications include marine propellers, ship hulls, subsea piping, desalination intake systems, and coastal cooling loops.
Standard 316L stainless steel has lower yield strength and is highly susceptible to crevice corrosion under bolt heads and pitting in warm saltwater. Monel K-500 washers provide twice the yield strength and outstanding resistance to seawater corrosion, allowing bolted joints to remain secure over a 50+ year operational life.
While Inconel 625 is a superalloy designed for extreme pressures and acid-rich subsea environments, Monel K-500 is optimized specifically for pure seawater and high-vibration marine fastening, providing a superior combination of seawater corrosion resistance, mechanical strength, and fatigue life at a more cost-effective point for maritime service.
We manufacture multiple configurations designed to manage dynamic loads. Plain flat washers are used for static load distribution and material separation. For active vibration damping and thermal-cycling joints, Belleville conical washers, wave washers, and split lock washers are specified.
