Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Sunmach Incoloy Washers

They are used for load distribution and maintaining joint tension in extreme high-temperature environments where Standard Stainless Steel Washers would soften or deform. Typical applications include gas turbines in power generation, high-temperature steam systems, petrochemical furnace piping, chemical reactors, and commercial heat-treatment equipment.

Standard Stainless Steel (such as 316L) loses its mechanical strength and load-bearing capacity rapidly once operating temperatures exceed 600°C. Incoloy 800HT washers are specifically engineered to remain structurally stable and resist oxidation at continuous operating temperatures up to 900°C, preventing joint loosening over long-term thermal cycles.

Incoloy 800HT contains controlled additions of titanium and aluminum. When the alloy undergoes specialized heat treatment, these elements form microscopic precipitates within the metal that lock the grain structure in place. This prevents the metal grains from shifting or stretching (creeping) when subjected to high temperatures and heavy clamping forces.

A nylon-insert locking fastener relies on a polymer collar that will melt or lose its elasticity at temperatures above 100°C to 150°C. For any application operating above this threshold, or in high-temperature steam lines, all-metal spring washers or flat plain washers matching a high-temperature alloy like Inconel or Incoloy are mandatory to prevent joint loosening.

Every premium washer batch is shipped with complete material traceability. This includes EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Certificates verifying raw material chemistry, physical tensile test results at room and elevated temperatures, hardness measurements, and dimensional inspection logs proving complete flat surface uniformity.
