Standard hex nuts often provide insufficient bearing surface area, leading to localized stress, loosening under vibration and eventual joint failure. Sunmach’s duplex Heavy Hex Nuts feature a significantly larger head (approximately 1.5× Standard size) combined with the high strength and corrosion resistance of Duplex 2205 stainless steel, ensuring reliable long term clamping force. These heavy hex nuts are ideal for offshore platform flanges, pressure vessel assemblies, structural steel connections and desalination plant equipment where safety and durability are paramount. Manufactured using advanced hot forging, precision threading and in-house heat treatment, they deliver consistent performance and resist corrosion for 20–30+ years in aggressive marine and chemical environments.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Sunmach Stainless Steel Heavy Hex Nuts

They are primarily used in high-load, high-torque, and severely corrosive assemblies where standard nuts would strip, gall, or suffer rapid oxidation. Typical applications include marine vessel structures, seawater desalination plant piping, chemical reactor flanges, high-vibration industrial machinery, and structural bridge supports.

Standard hex nuts have smaller dimensions and less thread engagement, which can lead to wrench slippage, thread stripping, or head deformation under high torque. Stainless steel heavy hex nuts feature an enlarged hex profile that distributes clamping force more evenly and shields internal threads from seawater entry.

254 SMO is a super austenitic grade with a high pitting resistance equivalent and a yield strength of approximately 300 MPa, ensuring absolute corrosion immunity and high pressure-holding capacity for over 30 years of continuous service in warm, highly concentrated chloride streams.

Standard 316L is a molybdenum-enhanced stainless steel that is highly cost-effective for general industrial acids and mild chemical exposure. Super austenitic 904L is heavily alloyed with copper and nickel, making it the premier choice for aggressive reducing acids, such as hot sulfuric or phosphoric acids.

Stainless steel threads are prone to galling, a form of wear where sliding threads cold-weld under pressure, which can lock the joint prematurely or strip the threads completely. Utilizing Nitronic 60 or applying specialized passivation and lubricants ensures smooth thread engagement and repeatable torque transmission.
