They feature a yield strength of about 450 MPa and a tensile strength of 620 MPa, which makes them roughly twice as strong as Standard 316L stainless steel. This high strength prevents thread stripping under high clamping preloads.
As a mating bolt is threaded into the nut, it forces its way through the unthreaded PA66 nylon collar. The nylon compresses elastically around the bolt threads, creating a high-friction prevailing torque that resists vibration and micro-slip without damaging the bolt.
Choose nylon-insert lock nuts for highly economical vibration resistance in environments under 100°C (they are typically 20% to 40% more cost-effective than all-metal designs). Specify all-metal lock nuts for applications exceeding 100°C or where the joint is exposed to warm seawater, which degrades nylon.
