They are used for precision fastening in confined spaces or low-profile assemblies where standard hex head bolts cannot fit or be easily accessed with standard wrenches. Typical applications include aerospace structures, subsea instrumentation, semiconductor cleanroom assemblies, and high-pressure chemical pump enclosures where space is limited but high clamping force is required.

Standard 316L Stainless Steel has lower yield strength and is highly susceptible to crevice corrosion underneath bolt heads and inside Hex Socket cavities when exposed to stagnant saltwater. Duplex 2205 Socket Head Cap Screws provide twice the yield strength and outstanding resistance to chloride-induced pitting, allowing engineers to safely downsize fastener sizes while improving safety margins.

Socket Head Cap Screws feature a cylindrical head with a recessed hexagonal drive (socket cavity) and are installed using a hex key (Allen wrench). This design allows the fastener head to sit flush with or below the surface of the components. Hex Head Cap Screws have a six-sided hexagonal head driven from the outside with a standard socket or wrench, requiring more clearance around the fastener head.

Because Duplex 2205 is a high-strength material, these screws are often tightened to high torque values. A socket cavity that is too loose will cause the hex key to slip and strip the socket walls during installation. A cavity that is too tight will prevent the tool from seating fully. Maintaining a strict tolerance ensures perfect tool engagement and repeatable, safe torque transmission.

Yes, because they are manufactured from high-yield Duplex 2205 without sacrificial locking elements, they can be reused multiple times. However, before re-installation, the socket cavity must be inspected for wear or rounding and the threads must be checked for signs of micro-galling or stripping. If any thread or socket wear is found, the screw should be replaced to preserve joint safety margins.
